Knee & sports surgery in Peshawar
The knee takes load in every step, and it relies on four ligaments and two meniscal cartilages to stay stable while it does. When one of those structures fails, the joint can still bend and straighten — which is why a serious knee injury is often walked on for weeks before anyone looks at it properly.
Ligament injuries in Peshawar most often come from sport and from road traffic accidents. Twisting on a planted foot, landing awkwardly, or a direct blow to the side of the knee are the usual mechanisms. Meniscal tears follow the same pattern in younger patients, and appear with ordinary wear in older ones.
Assessment starts with examination: which ligament is lax, whether the joint line is tender, whether the knee locks or gives way. MRI confirms the pattern and shows what else was injured at the same time, because ligament tears rarely happen in isolation.
Not every ligament injury needs surgery. Grade I and II sprains often heal with physiotherapy and bracing. Complete tears in active patients, and multi-ligament injuries, are the cases where reconstruction is considered.
