Background
Trauma & chronic pain care in Peshawar
Fractures divide into those a cast can hold and those it cannot. A stable, undisplaced fracture will heal in plaster. A displaced fracture, one that runs into a joint surface, or one that cannot be held in position, needs fixation — otherwise it heals in the wrong place, and the joint pays for it years later.
Bone deformity is the other half of this work: congenital, developmental, or left behind by an old injury that healed badly. Correction uses osteotomy and fixation to restore the alignment of the limb, and is considered where the deformity is affecting function or causing pain.
Chronic joint pain is treated differently again. The first task is not to relieve it but to explain it. Pain that has lasted months is usually being managed with painkillers and no diagnosis, and that is the thing worth changing.
Anatomical reduction and stable fixation allow early movement, which is what protects the joint. For persistent pain, examination and imaging come before any treatment plan is agreed.
